As the name implies, this recipes feels worlds fancier than bread and butter. My version is just a slight tweak on a “recipe” I found on Food52 by Marian Bull. I never even liked radishes until I tasted this. It seems too simple to be this good, but it is THAT GOOD and it makes an amazing snack, breakfast or hors d’ oeuvres. We threw a few icicle radish seeds in the ground back in January and so naturally when they cropped up after this last big April shower, we toasted with these in the backyard!
1 icicle radish
1 slice of pan de mie or other white artisanal bread
1 thick smear of slightly soft good butter
Flaky salt such as Maldon
Toast bread and then set it aside to cool. Meanwhile scrub and slice the radish paper thin. Once the toast has cooled, spread the toast with butter, then layer on radish slices and sprinkle with sea salt.
